Introduction:

Originally from Yorkshire I have lived, worked and enjoyed the varied landscape of the Heart of England since arriving at university in Leicester. Following a varied archaeological career that included wet sieving soil for ancient insects, finding a Roman road with the help of an enthusiastic group of mature students and dating pottery from Nottingham castle I re-trained as a primary school teacher stimulated by the children’s delight in learning.

With a passion for places, history and the landscape I have spent many years exploring the variety and often hidden places of the Heart of England. Designated by friends and family as the ‘let’s go to interesting places’ person I spent many years enjoying planning and creating days out for them. Ever curious, I decided to develop my knowledge and skills further by first training as a Green Badge Guide in 2013 and then a Blue Badge Guide in 2016.

Since training as a professional guide, I have been able to share our complex, varied, historic and beautiful part of England with people from across the world. Reflecting the immense variety of my area I have created and led tours for clients to the birthplace of Industry at Ironbridge in Shropshire, to Birmingham which was described as the city of a thousand trades, to the birthplace of one the worlds’ greatest playwright’s William Shakespeare’s Stratford Upon Avon, and panoramas of beautiful countryside in the Cotswolds.

As a guide I enjoy planning tours for clients whether on foot, or on a coach or a mix of both. Feedback from clients suggest that I am “organised, knowledgeable, interesting, flexible, and friendly.”

My special interests are archaeology, history, pottery and ceramics and arts and crafts.
