Brought up in Cumbria (my roots in the county go back 200 years) I spent my professional career in the UK Diplomatic Service, returning to live here on retirement.
I grew up in Hawkshead, where Wordsworth was educated; went to school in Sawrey where Beatrix Potter wrote her books; and learned to sail on Windermere like Arthur Ransome's "Swallows & Amazons". My years of living abroad - in Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Lithuania, India and the British Virgin Islands - mean that I understand the needs of overseas visitors. The boats on Windermere (particularly steam-driven ones) have always been part of my life as has Cumbria's maritime heritage of trading and shipbuilding. I have first-hand experience of researching both local and family history in Cumbria. I offer tailor-made tours and also general interest tours on foot, by coach or using public transport. I have the 2011 Cumbria Eco-Tourism qualification.
