Introduction:
I provide customised tours across the North of England for individuals and groups of up to six people in a Land Rover Discovery which enables visitors to see over the many walls and hedgerows. I love taking people on and off the beaten track, sharing the stories and secrets of each distinctive area through its landscape, literature, people (past and present), villages and market towns.
I began my guiding career in London before being drawn to the North of England by its literary associations, fascinating history, vernacular architecture and intriguing archaeological heritage, all set in areas of outstanding natural beauty. After over 40 years guiding here in the North, I still feel privileged to have ‘the best job in the world’.
A country girl at heart I love to hike and garden in my spare time, so to share country walks or visit gardens with my visitors is pure joy! On a wet day I am very happy in art and craft studios and antique shops. Finish the day at the theatre or a concert and I've had a perfect day!
I am very versatile and love to explore and research, so tell me what you are interested in and I will always ‘go that extra mile’ to ensure you have the best possible experience.
I'm a keen walker and I'm happy to take you on walking tours in villages and towns. As a Yorkshire guide a walking tour through the City of York is a favourite and I also love discovering the nooks and crannies of our historic market towns - they each have their own story.
I'm particularly at home in the countryside and would love you to join me on a walk whether it be a gentle potter to see the best views or a hidden gem or perhaps a longer low to medium level hike through our magnificent landscapes. I have a good knowledge of walking tours over a wide area and love to follow in the footsteps of our writers and painters.
I look forward to meeting you!
