|History & Prehistory||
My University degree is in Scottish History and I very interested in more recent and ancient history.
Edinburgh has examples of a real variety of architecture, particularly in the Old Town near the Castle and the more recent 18th c classical examples in the New Town. All over Scotland is a huge variety of different styles from tower houses to stately homes and simple cottages.
|Castles & Palaces||
A must for anyone visiting Scotland - we are steeped in history and that is reflected in our wonderful old castles and palaces.
What a variety of scenery we have - the Scottish lowlands and border country with their rich farmland and rolling hills - then the Scottish Highlands with their dramatic mountains and beautiful lochs (true wilderness still to be found).
|Folklore & Traditions||
Scotland's traditional music does not just consist of bagpipes although that is our most well-known instrument. Fiddles, accordions, harps - we have it all + a rich culture of songs, ballads and stories.
|Stately Homes & Country Houses||
Throughout the country there are beautiful great houses, many of them still inhabited with fabulous tapestries and paintings + lovely grounds.
|Churches & Cathedrals||
Our religion is fascinating - from the ruins of the ancient Catholic abbeys to simple country churches and city cathedrals.
