Jill Cannon Jones
I love introducing people to Cumbria and the Lake District and am equally happy guiding in English or Japanese, from the front of a coach or on foot, in a ancient church or on England's highest mountains.
I have been guiding customers around Cumbria's mountains since realising my lifetime dream of moving to the Lake District in 2005. I hold the Mountain Leader Award and enjoy helping people reach the top of a challenging climb or taking a group on a gentle stroll followed by delicious pub lunch.
Since becoming a Blue Badge Guide for Cumbria I have also specialised in leading tours for Japanese visitors. I am the only Blue Badge Guide based in Cumbria who is qualified to guide in Japanese. After studying languages at university I spent three years in Yokohama, Japan and then a further five years using my Japanese in project management roles in this country. I continue to receive excellent feedback from Japanese customers who really appreciate the fact that they can listen to and talk to me directly without the need for an interpreter.
Of course brilliant guiding is nothing without excellent customer care and this is always at the forefront of my mind when I am out with a group. I really hope that by the end of one of my tours you will have come to love Cumbria and the Lake District as much as I do.
I hold my Mountain Leader Award and am interested in all aspects of the countryside, wildlife, mountains and the environment.
Especially in the lives of Cumbria's most famous writers: William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
