Born in Hampshire, England, Jackie is a British – Belgian guide who divides her time between the great city of London and the ‘smallest city in the world’ Durbuy in Belgium. The many links between her two home cultures fascinate her and vibrant, creative, quirky, historical London is a passion she loves to share.
A native speaker of English and having raised her family, studied and worked in Flanders, Jackie speaks Dutch and English fluently. She also taught English at the University of Leuven and practised as a solicitor in London. So a visit to Samuel Johnson’s house to explore the writing of his ‘Dictionary of the English Language’ or a walk through legal London are favourites. People stories often figure in her guiding.
Jackie specialises in bespoke walks and bespoke site visits:-
London has something for everyone. Jackie's London home is on the Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf and Docklands are a treasure to guide. Other recent walks have included the Street Art of Shoreditch, the Georgian architecture and squares of Marylebone, the markets of London, the alleyways of the City of London's ‘Square Mile’, and ‘London in Quotations’. This walk has also been combined with visiting a careful selection of London bookshops.
Bespoke site visits
Jackie is a firm believer in selected and focussed tours rather than overview tours. Visits with Jackie to any of London’s museums, palaces, town houses and art galleries are tailored to your interests. Some favourite sites include Banqueting House, The British Museum, the National Gallery, Dr Johnson’s House and the National Portrait Gallery. Jackie’s childhood home was in Windsor so a visit to its famous castle is more than a pleasure.
"Your extra information and ideas like Wallace Collection, Westminster Abbey – Evensong… were perfect. Your tour 'London in Quotations' including Banqueting House was top and the way you guided us was really impressive!
In summary, the whole group gives you the greatest distinction! "
