Hello, I am Alan and qualified as a Blue Badge guide in 2014. I live in Bodmin, Cornwall, a town centrally situated for easy access to all of Cornwall and Devon, although I am willing to travel further afield. I served 30 years in the Metropolitan Police and upon retirement I became a coach driver so my knowledge of South West England is extensive.
I offer guided walking tours of Plymouth and other South West cities. Bodmin Moor is on my doorstep with its industrial heritage, being part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining World heritage site. Not forgetting Jamaica Inn and Daphne Du Maurier.
I specialise in Mid and East Cornwall with its China Clay area, Doc Martins' Port Isaac, King Arthur's Tintagel and numerous other places rich in history and heritage. How about a ride on a steam train of the Bodmin and Wenford railway (complete with a Cornish Cream Tea) or getting locked up in Bodmin Gaol!. East Cornwall is totally unspoilt with rolling countryside, small villages and larger seaside hotspots such as Looe and Bude or Padstow.
My area has so much to see and do, no wonder it is the UK,s favourite all year round "staycation location".
Cycle trails...miles of disused and transformed railway lines are now cycle trails. Walk a small stretch of the South West Coast path to walk of that Cornish Pasty!. That brings me on to food, my favourite subject, something for everyone. Wine...several small independent vineyards. Beer....again many small independent breweries.
From November 2019, the city of Plymouth, from where the Pilgrim fathers finally set sail aboard their ship the Mayflower in 1620, will be holding a series of events to celebrate 400 years since the voyage. So too will the stunning port town of Dartmouth. This is also an ideal time to tour the rest of the area.
Come and see for yourself with my help.
Bye for now
