A VISIT TO WINCHESTER CITY- Tue 5 Feb 11:00

The ancient and vibrant Winchester was once our capital city.
This special CPD day will focus on: historical links shared between Winchester and London, Jane Austen and an overview of the city’s scintillating past!
The day will include:
*A visit to the Great Hall – one of the finest surviving halls of the C13 and all that remains of Winchester Castle. See if you can recognise the Hall as a film backdrop for Wolf Hall and the Crown. Marvel at the Round Table from Arthurian legend. Enjoy stories about trials held here, including the trial of Sir Walter Raleigh in 1603.
*A city highlights walk – travelling down the High Street, through the Close and past Jane Austen’s final home
*A tour of the spectacular cathedral, once a pilgrimage site for St Swithun, where you will also see; Jane Austen’s grave, the Chantry Chapels created for Bishops of Winchester, and the spectacular Winchester Bible.
11.00am: Meet at the entrance to the Great Hall, Winchester (close to railway station)
Followed by City Walk (to finish at 1.00pm)
Lunch (free time)
2.00pm: Meet at entrance to Cathedral
4.00pm: Cathedral tour ends
5.30pm: Evensong in Cathedral (optional)
There will be a lot of walking, so please be comfortable and prepared for the weather! There will be a break between the walk and the Cathedral tour. Nearby are numerous food / sandwich outlets and Cathedral toilets.
