London’s Christmas Lights

If you’re in London this December, why not take a guided tour of the Capital’s dazzling Christmas lights. Here are some of the best places to take in the magic of London’s sparkling Christmas lights, and remember, your London Blue Badge Guide will also fill you in on all the fascinating London stories and landmarks you’ll pass along the way!

Oxford Street

Ask a Londoner ‘Where are the best Christmas lights in London?’ and they’ll probably say Oxford Street. Home to a staggering 300 shops, Oxford St is worth a visit this time of year. It can get busy, but take time to marvel at the street lights and amazing displays at the various department stores. Not too far from here we also recommend the window displays at Fortnum & Masons (Piccadilly) and Harrods (Knightbridge) all must sees this time of year!

Covent Garden

Ask your tour guide to take you on a leisurely stroll around Covent Garden and admire the dazzling lanterns, the giant baubles, garlands and mistletoe decorations. You can take a tour of the lights and continue the Christmas festivities in Covent Garden’s huge selection of pubs, bars, restaurants and the nearby West End theatres.

Carnaby Street

Fully iconic & totally hip, Carnaby Street is known for the singing 60’s and, as befits its quirky nature, the streets lights change every year. This year’s 25th anniversary theme is  ‘Carnaby Celebrates’. Palm trees, a giant snowman, oversized robins, glittering planets – an amazing collection of 14 different themes. If you’ve toured Carnaby Street at Christmas before, it’s different this year and well worth touring again!

South Molton Street

Located in Mayfair, this is the ultimate in luxury Christmas lights and shopping. Be dazzled and amazed by the eye-catching lights and designer boutiques.

Regent Street

A shopping thoroughfare with the impressive sparkling Spirits of Christmas overhead, fine shopping and the world’s largest toyshop, Hamley’s.

Kew Gardens

Just further afield from Central London is Kew Gardens. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Botanical Garden with over 50,000 living plants. Come Christmas time and come around 4pm each day, Kew Gardens is transformed into a magical light journey. Stop along the way for some festive treats and spiced winter warmers.

… and these are just some of the London illuminations you need to experience this year. Contact a Guide or the Guild Office to book your very own personal Christmas Lights Tour of London.
