A guided tour should, above all, be fun and enjoyable.I'm brimming with enthusiasm and give lively, entertaining tours. I hope it will seem effortless to you; you don't have to know about my careful and conscientious behind-the-scenes research and planning.
My guiding experience is varied, although I specialise in STUDENT GROUPS, SENIOR SPECIAL-INTEREST GROUPS, and CORPORATE GROUPS.(But if you're not in that category, please feel welcome - I'm sure we'll get on very well!)
I was born in London, and as I opened my eyes I fell in love with the place and have never strayed! The rest of England is pretty fantastic too. Before becoming a guide, I've always been a communicator. I've worked as an English teacher, journalist, editorial director, complementary health therapist, and managed a tour operating company for a while.
But what was I thinking of? I was living in London, this amazing city, and wonderful country, living the life, feasting on the culture, the art galleries, the museums, devouring the literature, pounding those streets, rocking to the music, and needing to share my passion! So I became a Guide and now I couldn't be happier.
My past life has helped, though. Studying for my teaching degree allowed me to study English literature in depth (what pleasure!); I also taught English as a Foreign Language, and can quite HAPPILY GUIDE PEOPLE WITH LIMITED ENGLISH, and with virtually no knowledge of Britain, its culture or its history. I speak very clearly and tell lots of great stories (so they tell me!) My publishing background took me into the world of business meetings and negotiations so I'm quite at home in the corporate world.
Walking tours, coach panoramics, day trips out of London, gallery tours; what fun they've all been! I've learnt that despite the most careful planning, surprises will always occur, but I manage to stay unphased and always cheerful.
